August 1, 2010We welcome all those visiting today. We pray that you will be blessed through the worship and fellowship here. Please join us this morning as we remember Christ’s death on the cross and His saving body and blood in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. The August 1, 15 and 29 worship services will be in the North Church. The August 8 and 22 worship services will be in the South Church. The worship services are at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. The evening service on August 29 will be a combined service at the Grace Reformed Church in Corsica.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY/ANNIVERSARY NEWS: We wish Happy Birthday Blessings to Beth Maas who will celebrate her birthday on Monday, August 2, and to Marissa M and Randi H who will both celebrate their birthday on Thursday, August 5. We extend Happy Anniversary congratulations to Joel and Tracy M who are celebrating their anniversary today, August 1, to Gary and Beth M who will celebrate their anniversary on Thursday, August 5 and to Clareon and Tillie VD who will celebrate their anniversary on Saturday, August 7.
THANK YOU: Thank you to the men, women and kids who worked hard at cleaning up the church grounds after the storm and to those who provided refreshments following the work!
LADIES: Beth Moore will be appearing live in Rapid City on Nov.19-20 at the Living Proof Live event. If you are interested in attending, Sara and/or Laurie Munneke will be ordering tickets Aug. 1 and would be happy to order one for you. Cost for the conference is $60.00 per person. We will be reserving hotel rooms, which will be an additional cost. Please get your payment to Sara Munneke (680-9729) or Laurie Munneke(243-2290) to reserve your spot.
EDUCATION COMMITTEES: There will be a meeting of the education committees on August 4 at 8:00 p.m. in the South Church. Come with ideas to improve our church school classes for the next season. The committee members would also welcome input before that meeting from parents and teachers about ways to improve the program. There is a new curriculum that looks really exciting.
WEDDING INVITATION: The congregation is invited to witness the wedding ceremony of Seth Reimnitz and Nicole Lefers at the Corsica Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, August 7, at 4:30 p.m.
NURSING HOME SERVICE: Our church is in charge of the service at the Nursing Home on Sunday, August 8, at 2:15 p.m. The Council requests that those under the name of Ken VH on the Church Prayer list attend this service with the residents. The families on this list include: Ken VH, Keith DW, Kent S, Jone VD, Sarah V, Steve V, Delmar M, LaRoy L, Joel M and Bill L. Would one of the pianists be prepared to play for the service?
TWO WEEKS LEFT: The shoeboxes for Guatemala are due on August 15. There are still some boxes available in the Faber Center. This is a wonderful opportunity to bless the children in Central America not only at Christmas but also eternally as they are given an invitation to receive Jesus as their Savior. You may fill boxes or give a financial gift that will be used to fill boxes. Any checks should be written out to the Tom Vander Pol Memorial Fund by August 1. Thank you for being willing to give to the children in Jesus' name!
CHURCH PICNIC: The church potluck picnic will be held following the morning service on August 29 in the North Church.
YOUTH WORKER WORKSHOP: Minn-I-Kota is hosting a youth worker workshop for our church. Youth Unlimited will be helping in facilitating the event. The entire youth ministry team is encouraged to attend as the focus of the event will be to develop a mission/vision for your ministry, as well as developing goals. So often we just go through the motions of our ministry, this workshop will encourage you to be more intentional with your ministry to the youth. The location will be Inwood, IA on Sept. 11 from 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. The cost will be $100 per church, so bring as many leaders as you can. Lunch will be provided. You will need to RSVP to kandacebrands@alliancecom.net or 712-753-2669 by Aug. 2. We hope that you will take this opportunity to grow your youth ministry program.
BIBLE LEAGUE RETREAT: Dr. Carolyn Johnson combines Biblical principles, spiritual insights, and makes applications that are practical and personal from the Living Word of God. After hearing her speak, you will go away armed with spiritual wisdom and charged with excitement. She is the featured speaker for our Bible League International Volunteer’s Retreat at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa on September 14. Janice Sneller will lead our praise and worship. The deadline for registering is September 1, 2010. All men are encouraged to come for the banquet and the evening concert featuring the Vermeer Family. Glen and Betty along with their children and some grandchildren sing to the glory of our Lord. There is a charge for the banquet – be sure to include the men in your reservation. DCS REGISTRATION: Dakota Christian School will be having registration for the 2010-2011 school year on Monday, August 16, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. If you have questions regarding registration or if you cannot attend registration on that date, please call the DCS office at 243-2211 between 9:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m. after August 1 to make other arrangements.
CHRISTIAN COMEDIAN JEFF ALLEN will be appearing in concert Saturday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the BJ Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt College. Tickets are $12, $10 apiece for groups of 10 or more. Tickets at the door will be $15. Tickets are available by calling 712-722-6028 or emailing wfopma@dordt.edu. Jeff Allen is best at what he does–making people laugh as hard as humanly possible. His Happy Wife, Happy Life message of a marriage gone wrong and redeemed has given laughter and encouragement to millions of people. Jeff’s comedy drives home the humor in everyday family life and the joy derived from a healthy marriage. If you liked Ken Davis at Dordt College last year you will love Jeff Allen this year!
