Doris Lydia Voss, 86, died at the Good Samaritan Center in Corisca on July 5, 2010. A memorial service will be Friday, July 9, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Lighthouse Church in Corsica. Doris donated her body to the USD Medical Program in Vermillion. Burial will be at a later date in Opal, SD.
Doris Lydia Voss was born on January 23, 1924 to Leonard and Lydia Reeve on a farm near College Springs, IA in Page County. Her parents moved to Western NE in 1929. Doris attended grade school in Marsland, Whitney, and several rural schools, graduating from high school at Crawford in 1941. After finishing business school in Grand Island, NE, she joined the WAC in February of 1944 and was stationed at Dale Mabry Airbase outside Tallahassee, FL until the end of WWII. She attained her pilots license shortly after leaving the service. She attended the University of Denver and college at Billings, MT receiving her teaching certificate. She later taught rural school in MT and SD. She married Alfred Voss on June 14, 1952. They lived on their ranch near Trail City, SD until moving in 1969 to the ranch near Goodrich, ND where they lived until selling the ranch and moving to Corsica, SD in 2004. Doris was active in the Baptist Church in Goodrich as treasurer for many years, secretary-treasurer of County Historical Society for over 30 years, and also held positions in the County Farm Bureau and the Gideons. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading. She died at the Good Samaritan Center in Corsica on July 5, 2010 at the age of 86.
She is survived by 3 brother: Ermal (Barbara) Reeve of Opal, SD; Lisle (Mary) Reeve of Opal, SD; and Larry Reeve of New Plymouth, ID; 3 sisters: Lucille Andrews of Ogallala, NE; Lois Gebhart of Florence, CO; and Merle (Larry) Schmelzel of New Plymouth, ID.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Alfred in August of 2007.
