Her mother died when she was 8 months old so she went to live with Cornelius and Johanna (Vanden Hoek) Doorn. She always said Johanna was her mom, aunt, and grandmother, which she was. She married Everett DeBoer on March 7, 1939 in Harrison, SD. Together they farmed until 1957 when they bought a grocery store in Harrison. Together they owned and operated DeBoer's Market until retiring in 1983. Everett died on February 22, 2003. Alice was a member of the Harrison Christian Reformed Church where she was a member of the Esther Circle and Ladies Aide. She was also a member of Happy Homemakers Extension Club. She helped Everett refinish antique furniture for 20 years and was also an excellent seamstress and quilter. She made her daughters clothes and sewed and hand quilted many quilts. All her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have her quilts and will cherish her memory forever.
