Alice Evelyn DeBoer, 95, died on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston, SD. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Harrison Christian Reformed Church in Harrison with burial following in Harrison City Cemetery in Harrison. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 6 - 8 PM at Harrison Christian Reformed Church in Harrison with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Alice Evelyn DeBoer was born on July 26, 1918 to Arie and Polly (Doorn) Vanden Hoek on the family farm northeast of Corsica, SD. Her mother died when she was 8 months old so she went to live with Cornelius and Johanna (Vanden Hoek) Doorn. She always said Johanna was her mom, aunt, and grandmother, which she was. She married Everett DeBoer on March 7, 1939 in Harrison, SD. Together they farmed until 1957 when they bought a grocery store in Harrison. Together they owned and operated DeBoer's Market until retiring in 1983. Everett died on February 22, 2003. Alice was a member of the Harrison Christian Reformed Church where she was a member of the Esther Circle and Ladies Aide. She was also a member of Happy Homemakers Extension Club. She helped Everett refinish antique furniture for 20 years and was also an excellent seamstress and quilter. She made her daughters clothes and sewed and hand quilted many quilts. All her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have her quilts and will cherish her memory forever. Alice died on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston, SD at the age of 95.

Thankful and blessed to have shared her life are her children, Karen DeBoer of Corsica, SD, Delores (Lloyd) Markus of Huron, SD, Jan (Jim) Eggers of Corsica, SD, and Brent (Jenny) DeBoer of Sioux Falls, SD, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Everett, son, Harlan DeBoer, great-granddaughter, Haley Bannwarth, 4 brothers, Arie, Case, Johnny, and Leo Vanden Hoek, and 3 sisters, Maggie Slykhuis, Gertie Groeneweg, and Lena Dooyema.
