Alvin J. Kosters, age 82, of Edina, MN passed away on January 28, 2014. He was born on January 6, 1932 on a farm near New Holland, SD. Alvin graduated from Corsica High School in 1950, attended Calvin College, and served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He studied electrical engineering at the School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, SD where he received a BS degree. He also received a Masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1971.

Alvin was employed for many years at Control Data and Seagate companies in Minneapolis, MN. He enjoyed his work of magnetic modeling in the design of disc drives used in computers. Al enjoyed flying a private plane and vacationing at their family getaway on a lake in Wisconsin. He was a faithful lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the council and on the board of the Christian school. Alvin worked productively until his retirement at age 67 despite a serious physical handicap that resulted from a hunting accident when he was 41 years old.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Alice (Vander Luit) Kosters, and by his younger brother, Julius. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Julia, (daughter of Charles and Della (Vanden Hoek) Feenstra); 3 children, Wayne, Jay (Mary Donnelly), and Dan; 5 grandchildren, Tegan (Daniel) Rambeck, Chloe, Jacob, Anthony, and Christina, all of Minneapolis; brother, Marvin (Bonnie)Kosters; sister, Harriet Weeks; sister-in-law, Marilyn Kosters; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on February 1, 2014 at Calvary Church, 5300 France Ave. S., Edina, MN.
