Chet Zomer

Herman H. (Chet) Zomer died on December 11, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society in Corsica. Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Netherlands Reformed Church in Corsica with burial following in Graceland Cemetery in Corsica. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 6 - 8 PM at Koehn Bros. Funeral Chapel in Corsica with a prayer service at 7:30 PM.

Herman H. (Chet) Zomer was born on June 14, 1939 to Henry and Jennie (Kaptein) Zomer in Douglas County, SD. He attended Grandview Country School in Douglas County, SD and farmed with his mother during his teen years. He married Sylvia Dykstra on January 12, 1961 at Grace Reformed Church in Corsica, SD. They moved to Michigan for a year, then returned to South Dakota where he worked at the State Hiway Department and Morrows Produce in Armour. He then farmed near Harrison and later near Corsica. In 1982, he retired from farming and moved into Corsica due to health reasons. Chet was a baptized and confessing member of Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Corsica. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, drinking coffee with friends, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Corsica in March of 1997 where he died on December 11, 2011 at the age of 72.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Corsica, SD, 5 children: Brad (Rhonda) Zomer of Mitchell, SD; Brenda (Scott) Veurink of Harrison, SD; Kevin (Cindy) Zomer of Corsica, SD; Vonda (Doug) Anderson of Fargo, ND; and Jason (Jamie) Zomer of Hartford, SD; 8 grandchildren: Jody (Dave) Nour of Sioux Falls, SD; Randy Veurink of Harrison, SD; Derek Zomer of Vermillion, SD; Logan (Chelsea) Veurink of Sioux Falls, SD; Alex Ringstad of Fargo, ND; Gavin Zomer of Corsica, SD; Kamden and Kylie Zomer of Hartford, SD; a great-grandson, Myles Nour; 8 brothers and sisters: Hermina Van Roekel of Sioux Center, IA; Hatt Van Dyke of Marne, MI; Jean (Cornie) Blom of Corsica, SD; Nina (Edwin) Koedam of Rock Valley, IA; John (Sophia) Zomer of Larchwood, IA; Lena (Andy) Walma of Corsica, SD; Alvin (Lois) Zomer of Sioux Center, IA; and Fran Overweg of Dorr, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Jacob Rus, brothers-in-law, John Van Dyke, Harlan Overweg, and Cornie Van Roekel.
