Freda Van Horssen, 91, New Holland, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Avera Queen of Peace Health Services, Mitchell.

She was born on Jan. 18, 1921.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Holland Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be in New Holland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church. Mount Funeral Home, Platte, is assisting with arrangements.

Freda Van Horssen was born to Willem & Artje (Van Zandwyk) Bok in Herwynen, the Netherlands. She immigrated with her family to New Holland in 1926. In 1940, she relocated to Grand Rapids, Mich., to work, where she met and married George Davidson in 1941.

Two daughters were born to this union: Pat and Jeanette. She moved back to South Dakota with her daughters.

Freda united in marriage to Henry Van Horssen in 1959, expanding their family with the addition of his son, Harley.

They were together 32 years until Henry's death in 1991.

She lived in New Holland until 2011, when she became a resident of Leisure Living in Corsica until the time of her death.

Freda enjoyed having coffee with her friends. She loved nature, birds, animals and working in her garden. She also loved reading and taking part in her Bible studies.

She was a faithful member of New Holland Christian Reformed Church and New Holland Ladies Aid.

Grateful for having shared in Freda's life: her two daughters: Pat (Gary) VanderPol, Harrison; and Jeanette (Tony) Van Maanen, Eunice, N.M.; a stepson, Harley (Vonnie) Van Horssen, New Holland; 11 grandchildren: Steven (Nancy) VanderPol, Laurinda (Brett) Jacobsen, David (Cyndee) VanderPol, Terry (Trell) Van Maanen, Kevin (Lillia) Van Maanen, Carmella Van Maanen, Melissa (Mike) Hooker, Tami (Kevin) Duff, Jon Van Maanen, Jason (Becky) Van Maanen and Debi (Marshall) Hayes; three stepgrandchildren: Tonya (Alan) Weg, Tricia Van Horssen and Tara (Jarren) Kuipers; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Wim (Meta) Bok; and three sisters-in-law: Catherine, Janet and Goldy Bok, all of Michigan; along with many nieces and nephews.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a grandson, Tom VanderPol; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Fraley; six brothers: Thys, Martin, Kryn, Art, Len and Gerrit Bok; three sisters: Nellie Vreugdenhil, Margaret Van Zuidam and Marie De Lange; three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
