James Henry Norden, 67, Harrison, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Aurora Reformed Church, Aurora Center. Burial will be in Aurora Reformed Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mount Funeral Home, Platte, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

He was born on May 28, 1943, in Joubert Township, Douglas County, to Jake and Rickie (Tiemens) Norden.

He attended Tiemens Country School.

He worked for local farmers and, at age 19, owned a hay-hauling business.

On Feb. 21, 1964, he married Norma Iedema at Aurora Reformed Church.

They continued the hay moving business and later farmed on the Norden-Tiemens homestead.

He served as treasurer for the Joubert Township Board for 13 years.

He is survived by his wife, five children: Nancy Pheifer and husband Randy; Rhonda Van Den Hoek and husband Darwin; and James and wife Lorra, all of Platte; Cheryl Bordewyk and husband Troy, Corsica; and Debbie Van Genderen and husband Devin, Mitchell; nine grandchildren, four siblings: Ruth Vanden Bos and husband Melvin, Platte; Gerrit and wife Gwen, Corsica; Carol Rexwinkel and husband Elwood, Corsica; and Charlotte Nicolaisen and husband Steve, Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
