Jennie Ligtenberg, 101, died at the Good Samaritan Center in Corsica on December 11, 2009. Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 1:30 PM at Grace Reformed Church in Corsica with burial following in Graceland Cemetery in Corsica. Visitation will be Monday, December 14, 2009 from 5 - 7 PM at Koehn Bros. Funeral Chapel in Corsica with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.

Jennie Ligtenberg was born on June 10, 1908 to Simon and Minnie (DeVries) Menning in Douglas County, SD. She attended country school in Douglas County. On April 16, 1931, she married Fred M. Ligtenberg near Corsica, SD. Together, they farmed east of Corsica until a tornado destroyed their farm in May of 1962 at which time they moved to Corsica. Fred died on March 10, 1988. Jennie lived in Corsica for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Grandview Reformed and Grace Reformed Churches. She loved quilting, crocheting and embroidering. Many doilies were given to relatives and friends. She also had the gift of hospitality and everyone felt welcome in her home. Jennie moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Corsica in 2004, where she died on December 11, 2009 at the age of 101.

She is survived by 3 children: Arla (Don) Baker of Sioux Falls, SD; Leroy (Corinne) Ligtenberg of Mitchell, SD; and Gene (Leola) Ligtenberg of Rapid City, SD; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters:: Grace (Lyle) Groen and Lucille (Jr.) Noteboom of Corsica.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, 2 great-grandchildren, Matthew and Mark Janisch, 4 brothers, Clarence, Evert, Lloyd, and Art, and 2 sisters, Viola Goemaat and Pearl Brink.
