Katherine De Waard, 91, Armour, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at South Dakota Human Services Center, Yankton. Funeral services were held Sept. 16, 2010, at Harrison Christian Reformed Church, Harrison. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Armour. Arrangements were under the direction of Koehn Brothers Funeral Home, Armour.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1918, in Douglas County to Herman E. and Nellie (Rus) De Vries. She attended Grandview Country School in Douglas County.  On Nov. 21, 1941, she married Corstiaan De Waard on the Jake and Bertha De Waard farm near Stickney.

They farmed with his father for three years before moving to Douglas County, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Her husband died on Oct. 1, 2002. She was a member of Harrison Christian Reformed Church.

She is survived by five children: Berneta De Waard; and Jay and wife Mary, all of Armour; Helen Beukelman and husband Dave, Lincoln, Neb.; Norma Flavin and husband John, Hudson, Wis.; and Carolyn De Hoogh and husband David, Des Moines, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a brother, Everett De Vries and wife Amy, Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Pearl De Lange and husband John, Yuma, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Geneva Veurink; and two sons-in-law: Kerry Hinckley and Tom Riesselman.
