Lawrence Eugene DeHaai, 85, Sioux Falls, formerly of Corsica, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Avera Prince of Peace Nursing Home, Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Community Reformed Church, Sioux Falls. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m.

He was born on June 25, 1924, on a farm in Douglas County, near Corsica, to Gerrit and Iona (Meyer) DeHaai.

He grew up there and attended country school.

On Feb. 28, 1946, he married Sophie Baron in Corsica.

They farmed near Corsica for many years until moving to Sioux Falls in 1978.

He worked as a mechanic for Sioux International until retiring in 1990.

He then worked for a time as a support person for Muth Electric.

He was a member of Community Reformed Church.

He is survived by two children: Norm and wife Phyllis, Harrisburg; and Dee Linnen and husband Steve, Denver; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on April 27, 2003; his parents and a sister.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Community Reformed Church Vision Fund.
