Marion Veurink, 89, of New Holland, SD passed away Sat., Dec. 13, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Corsica, SD. Funeral Services are 1:30 P.M. Wed., Dec. 17, 2014 at the New Holland Christian Reformed Church. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at the New Holland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 7 P.M. Tue., Dec. 16, 2014 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte with a 7 P.M. Prayer Service. Marion Veurink was born on July 30, 1925 on the family farm near New Holland to Gerrit and Elizabeth (Vander Tuin) Veurink. He attended the Tiemans Country School through the 8th grade. He farmed with his family until he was inducted into the Army Air Force on June 25, 1945. After graduating from Teletype School he served as a Radio Operator at the Manila Airways in the Philippines. He was discharged on Dec. 12, 1946. He married Anna Mae Spoelstra of Denver, CO, on June 16, 1947 in the New Holland Christian Reformed Church. While farming near Joubert he attended the Veterans Agricultural School in Armour, SD. His favorite part of farming was "new life", calving and planting corn. He enjoyed hosting pheasant hunters which led to lifelong friendships.

He was a faithful, lifelong member of the New Holland Christian Reformed Church and was an active member of the Men's Society. He served as a board member of Joubert Township and Dakota Christian High School. He was a member of the Corsica American Legion Post #274.

Marion continued farming with his beloved son after moving to New Holland in 1992. He became a resident of the Corsica Good Samaritan Nursing Home on Feb. 14, 2013. He passed away on Dec. 13, 2014 while under the loving care of the staff at the nursing home. His wife faithfully visited him every day.

Grateful for sharing in Marion's life are: his wife of 67 years; his three children: Linda (Larry) Graybill, Judy (Tom) Veldkamp and Scott (Brenda) Veurink; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers: Edwin (Mavis) and Leroy (Elaine) Veurink; a sister, Harriet Meyerink; and many nieces and nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by an infant stillborn daughter; his parents; a sister and brother who died at two years and eight months of age during the flu epidemic; two brothers; two sisters; and several in-laws.
