Frances Mae Niewenhuis, 90, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, June 9 at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour. Due to Corronavirus concerns, a private, family service will be held Saturday, June 13 at the Harrison Community Church North. A public visitation will be held Friday, June 12 from 6 – 8 pm at the Harrison Community Church North.

Mae was born April 6, 1930 to Albert and Nellie (Schoon) Bult on the family farm southwest of Stickney, SD. She grew up on the farm and attended country school near there. After the completion of her schooling, Mae stayed on the farm and helped her parents and worked at Rogers Grocery in Stickney. She was united in marriage to Merle Rogers in 1956 in Stickney. To this union, 2 children, Kevin and Jerry, were born. Merle passed away in 1973. In 1960, Mae began working at Farmers State Bank in Stickney and was employed there until retiring in 1995. She married Edwin "Bud" Niewenhuis on December 6, 1974 in Harrison, SD. Mae was an active member of Harrison Community Church and was an avid bowler, often traveling to Armour and Platte to bowl well into her 80's. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Jerry (Denise) Rogers of Littleton, CO; 3 step-children: Doris (Russell) Metzger of Corsica; Mark Niewenhuis of Huron; and Keith (Michelle) Niewenhuis of San Antonio, TX; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Curt) Kredit of Mitchell; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth (Harry) Burma of Platte.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle Rogers and Bud Niewenhuis; a son, Kevin Rogers; 2 step-sons, Harlan Niewenhuis and Mark Niewenhuis in infancy; a sister, Lena Bultje; and a brother, Stanley Bult.
