Gordon “Gordy” Veurink was born on September 12, 1957, to Ralph and Elsie (Dykstra) Veurink in Platte, SD. He attended New Holland Christian School and graduated in 1975.
After high school, he worked in road construction and had his own trucking company for a while. After Nichole was born, they moved to a farm near his childhood home and began dairy farming, and Kyle and Kacey were born not long after. In 2006, Gordy quit milking dairy cows and used his lessons from childhood and the art of feeding dairy cattle to feed beef cattle with Gary Bultje by his side for the last 18 years.
Every once in a while he would take a break from farming, and he could always be found telling stories with a Diet Coke in hand and music, Fox News, or a Twins baseball game playing in the background.
Speaking of Twins baseball, Gordy loved going to games with his kids and grandkids. He also loved being a grandpa, collecting DeWalt tools and taking care of the numerous dogs he had throughout his life on the farm.
Gordon has been a member of the New Holland Christian Reformed Church since he was baptized on October 20, 1957. He made his confession of faith on June 1, 1975. He enjoyed singing in the Dakota Men’s Jubilee Choir on and off for the last 20 years.
Surrounded by his three children, Gordon passed away on March 18, 2024, at Sanford Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 66.
He is survived by his mother Elsie Veurink of New Holland, SD; daughter Nichole (Mike) Urban of Platte, SD; son Kyle (Courtnee) Veurink of Eagle River, AK; daughter Kacey (Kyle) Wojciechowski of White Lake, SD; grandchildren: Anthony and Allison Urban and Emberley Wojciechowski; three brothers: Maurice (Michelle) Veurink of Salt Lake City, UT, Russell (Bianca) Veurink of Piedmont, SD and Travis (Kerry) Veurink of Lebanon, TN; along with many nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his father Ralph Veurink.
