Darrell Vanden Hoek



Darrell Jay Vanden Hoek, 69, went to his heavenly home Sunday, June 30 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.  Funeral service will be Thursday, July 4 at 10:00 am at Grace Reformed Church in Corsica.  Visitation will be Wednesday, July 3 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service, at Grace Reformed Church in Corsica.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Darrell was born in Platte, SD on November 22, 1954 to Earl and Tillie (Kiep) Vanden Hoek.  He attended school in Corsica, SD and graduated from Corsica High School in 1973.  After graduation, he worked for Vanden Hoek Construction.  He was united in marriage to Londa Groeneweg on November 4, 1978 in Harrison, SD.  He and his brother Rodney worked together for many years in partnership as Vanden Hoek Brothers Construction. Later on the business became D & L Construction as it remains today.  Darrell loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their many activities.  He was a member of Grace Reformed Church. He proudly served on the Corsica Volunteer Fire Department for 44 years in which many of those years he took the lead role as fire chief.  He enjoyed golfing, especially at Dakota Trails Golf Course.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Londa of Corsica; 2 children, Angela (Jay) Spaans of Armour, and Trent (Abby) Vanden Hoek of Corsica; 7 grandchildren:  Bailey, Riley, Oakley and Kinley Spaans and Cali, Max and Remi Vanden Hoek; and a sister, Sheri Crago of Rochester, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings, Doris Dykstra, Henrietta Bormann and Rodney Vanden Hoek.
