Kathleen Menning

Kathleen May Menning, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away on August 17th, 2024 at the age of 86 at Good Samaritan Society – Corsica. Funeral service will be Tuesday, August 20 at 6:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 5:00 pm, at Lighthouse Fellowship Church in Corsica.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Kathleen was born on May 21st, 1938 to Martin and Elizabeth (Plooster) Koopal in Platte, SD. She attended grade school at New Holland Christian School and later attended high school in Platte, SD. She acquired a 1 year teaching degree at Springfield College in Springfield, SD. Once completing college she returned to the Platte area to teach country school near her brother Cecil's homestead. On March 26th, 1959 she married Donald Menning in Platte, SD and made their home on a farm in Corsica, SD. Through this union they were blessed with 4 children, Dianne, Kevin, Frank and Scott. Her family and church family were near and dear to her heart. She was a member of the Lighthouse Church and attended weekly bible studies until her death.

Kathy's house was a special place to gather for all her grandchildren and family. Sunday dinners and holidays were very important and a time for fellowship and a bible lesson. No one would ever leave her house hungry and many will remember her pancakes and desserts. Every grandchild chose their mate after getting grandma's seal of approval. Her opinion and life lessons were highly valued by her family. Kathy's one goal in life was to bring as many of her family and friends to know and love Jesus and join her in heaven someday. Her family will cherish all her one liners and memories of the mishap stories and predicaments she seemed to stumble into. The tears of joy roll when we recall these fond stories and Kathy blushing as we re-told them. Many of the grandchildren had their first driving lessons going back and forth to town with grandma. She was so calm and patient with them even though we spent plenty of time during these lessons in and out of the ditches. We could go on for pages about the beautiful life of Kathy and even cliff notes in the margins like all the letters and notes she wrote but we'll save those memories for another time.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Donald Menning, her parents Martin and Elizabeth Koopal, and three brothers, Cecil, Sherm and Robert Koopal.

She is survived by her 4 children Dianne (Ron) Larson, Kevin (Suzanne) Menning, Frank (Shelly) Menning, and Scott (Audra) Menning; 13 grandchildren Ryan Larson, Rachel (Kyle) Mehrer, Randi (Austen) Fagerland, Nick (Janel) Menning, Mallory (Keaton) Whitcomb, Faith Menning, Kris (Sam) Menning, Hope Menning, Kyle Menning, Erika Unger, Clayton (Jenna) Menning, Cordel Menning, Courtney Menning; 15 great grandchildren Aiden Larson, Cassidy, Autumn and Henry Mehrer, Paxton and Jayla Fagerland, Micah and Morgan Menning, Avery, Levi and MacKenzie Whitcomb, Kaiser Menning, Thea and Arlo Unger, Millie Menning and growing.
