Valores Eggers

Valores Jane Eggers arrived as the only child to Albert and Emma (Batterman) Olawsky on July 26, 1935, on their farm east of Corsica, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church (Hillside).

Valores attended country school near Corsica and graduated from Parkston High School in 1953. Following graduation, she worked for Dr. Charles Krall while attending Dakota Wesleyan University obtaining her teaching certificate.

Valores taught at various country schools in Corsica, Armour, and Vermillion areas.

On July 3, 1961, Valores married Dennis Eggers in Mitchell, SD. Valores and Denny resided in Vermillion for a short time before moving to Mitchell. In 1978 Corsica then became their home for the next 40 years.

Valores worked for her cousin Spud at his grocery store in Corsica and later started daycare out of her home.

Valores lived a faith-based life and stayed active in her church, enjoying her church women and bible study groups. She enjoyed caring for her beautiful gardens, reading until the wee hours of the night, doing crosswords and was always up for a good game of pinochle or pitch. She enjoyed cooking and no one ever left her house hungry!

Valores will be most remembered for her contagious laugh and upbeat attitude.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three daughters, Lisa (Craig) Tischler, Mitchell, SD, Denise (Roger) Plooster, Sioux Falls, SD, and Darci Eggers, Portland, OR; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Jeremy (Andi) and Quinn Petersen, Sioux Falls, SD; Ryan (Gretchen), Addison, Kinley and Maddyn Petersen, Sioux Falls, SD; Taryn (Freddy) and Reese Flanagan, Mitchell, SD; Trent (Kayla), Drake and Brexton Plooster, Hartford, SD; Brynn Hoesing (Demy), Brooklyn and Hudson, Viborg, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis in 2019, and her parents.
