Gordon Kredit

Gordon Kredit, 91, went to his heavenly home Friday April 4, 2025, at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour. Memorial service will be Saturday May 3 at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am, at the Christian Reformed Church in Corsica. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Gordon Egbert Kredit was born July 1, 1933, to Clara (DeVries) Kredit and Egbert Kredit in Corsica, SD. He attended and graduated from Corsica High School. Gordon was united in marriage to Doris (Van Ekeren) Kredit on August 26, 1952. They were married nearly 55 years before Doris’s passing. Gordon married Mary Lou (Hamburg Van Zee) Kredit October 13, 2007, and was blessed with another 17 years of marriage. Corsica was Gordon’s life long home with the exception of 2 years spent stationed at Ft. Campbell in Hopkinsville, KY while serving in the U.S. Army when first married.

Gordon was active in the community and served on the town council board and commercial club board that involved making decisions for the betterment of the community. He served on the local school board and he was a volunteer fireman for over twenty years. Gordon helped establish the Lion’s Club and was an active life member of the American Legion. Gordon was an officer and a volunteer at the Lake View Golf Course. He was a life member of the Christian Reformed Church and held numerous positions within the church council. He was instrumental in formation of the Wayside Chapels and spent many hours volunteering and supporting them. Gordon’s career was spent as a Ford dealer. He began in the family business with his father and brother in Corsica. Later, Gordon and his brother Ken formed a partnership and opened a dealership in Platte that lasted until their retirement in 1996. Nearing and after retirement, Gordon enjoyed spending winters in Florida and many years in Mesa, Arizona at Viewpoint Resort. Gordon loved to drive. He enjoyed golfing, pickle ball, car shows, baseball and being active with friends and family, whether it was playing cards or having coffee time. Gordon was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mary Lou; 4 children, Douglas (Sheryl) Kredit of Kingsburg, CA; Curtis (Linda) Kredit of Mitchell, SD; Kathy (Jack) Peterson of Hartford, SD; Thomas (Tracy) Kredit of Deadwood, SD; a brother, Kenneth (Dee) Kredit formerly Platte, SD; 7 grandchildren, Matthew Kredit; Joshua (Vanessa) Kredit; Susan (Thomas) Putzel ; Sheila (Sylvano) Kredit Roman; Jillian (Jon) Gellings; Jayne (Todd) Leusink; Jodie (Tyler) Nelsen; 14 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Kredit; Brett and Georgia Putzel; Jonah, Ezekiel and Alora Kredit; Xiomara Kredit Roman; Arete and Esker Ray Gordon Gellings; Oakley, Juniper, and Talula Leusink; Sunny Nelsen; his extended family, 3 step-sons, Gregory (Linda) Van Zee; Kurt (Laura) Van Zee; Scott (Lori) Van Zee; 13 step-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
