Irene Wagner

Irene Wagner, 94, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, in Lincoln, Neb.

Born January 5, 1932, in White Lake, S.D., Irene graduated from Stickney High School and later married Robert “Bob” Wagner. Together they farmed and built a life centered on family in the Corsica, S.D., area. She spent the past decade living in Lincoln, Neb.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents, Peter and Margaret Ries; her sister and husband, Elaine (Floyd) Backus; her sister-in-law, Nancy Ries; her brother-in-law, Lawrence Hettinger; parental in-laws Louis and Clara Wagner; and all of Bob’s seven siblings and their spouses; along with other nieces and nephews.

Irene is survived by her children: Carla (Bob) Hoback of Lincoln, Neb.; Craig (Joy) Wagner of Salem, Ore.; and Curt Wagner of Omaha, Neb. She is also survived by her granddaughters: Tia Wagner of Salem, Ore.; Jessica (Chris) Kortum; her great-grandchildren, Clive and Graham of Lincoln Neb.; her sister, Arlette Hettinger, and her brother, Donald Ries, both of Mitchell; along with several more nieces and nephews.
