Bob was born September 20, 1938 to Herman and Ardath (Goemaat) DeVries in Grandview Township in Douglas County, SD. He attended country school near the family’s farm through the 8th grade when he began helping with the day to day operations on the farm. For a short time, he drove a gravel truck, worked for area farmers, both farming and raising hereford bulls and worked for the county highway department.
He was united in marriage to Clarice Noteboom on September 2, 1959 at the Harrison CRC Church. Together, the couple started their own farm where they raised their family and farmed until retiring in 2019. Bob loved spending time with his family and attended many of his grandchildren’s activities. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, annual camping trips where he made homemade popcorn for the grandchildren, making jerky from his deer and gifting it to family and friends, and traveling, especially a trip to Alaska with friends and a fishing trip to Canada with his sons and grandsons.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 66 years, Clarice of Armour; 3 children: Dwight (Denise) DeVries of Yankton, SD; Leanne (Curt) Wieczorek of Mt. Vernon, SD; and Dan (Jill) DeVries of Sioux Falls, SD; 9 grandchildren: Janelle (Aaron), Kaili (Beau), Logan, Garrett (Brittany), Danielle (Ryan), Megan (Bradley), Emily (Micah), Alex (Carissa) and Dereck (Kayla); and 12 great-grandchildren: Karlie, Austin, Kensley, Burkelyn, Josie, Isla, Elyse, Arlo, Isaiah, Noah, Asher and Tatum.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darwin; and 2 siblings, Ramona VanZee and Kenny DeVries.
