Sarah Paulina (Wolbrink) De Boer was the ninth of ten children born to Jacob Sr. and Hattie (Brouwer) Wolbrink on their family’s farm near Aurora Center, SD on April 2, 1922. She attended country grade school and briefly worked at the Mitchell Methodist Hospital. She was united in marriage to Orville De Boer in her parents’ home on December 28, 1949 and moved to his family’s farm in the area known as Garden Valley. Orville passed away on December 1, 2015 and she stayed on the farm for two more years before moving to an assisted living apartment in January 2018 and then a nursing facility in August of 2020. Grieving her loss began in March of 2020, when those who loved her were no longer able to freely visit her and give hugs because of the pandemic, and continues with her death on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Center Corsica. Her testimony that Jesus was her Lord and Savior brings great comfort.

Sarah was an active lifelong member of the First Reformed/Community Church of Harrison where she used her gift of music to serve as one of the organists for 50 years. God also blessed her with abilities to create detailed quilts, make wonderful food, and grow beautiful flowers. But most of all He shaped her into a faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Grateful for sharing her life are, her three children: Darrell (Marjean) De Boer of Corsica, SD, Merlin De Boer (Diane Hinz) of Pipestone, MN and Bonnie (Larry) Vander Ley of Corsica, SD; nine grandchildren: Roxy (Shawn) Rus, Kenneth (Nikki) De Boer, Cindy (Joel) Watters, Kerry (Jourdan) Vander Ley, Brian (Katie) Vander Ley, Luke (Rachel) Vander Ley, Amber (Andrew) Herdegen, Tim (Grace) Vander Ley, Seth (Arianna) Vander Ley; 19 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; one sister-in law: Eltha Wolbrink of Corsica, SD and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband; two sisters and their husbands: Nellie (Richard) Dykstra and Katie (Charley) Dykshorn; seven brothers and their wives: Richard (Anna), Charles (Helen), William (Gertrude), Gerrit (Agnes), John (Marie), Gideon (Lorraine), and Jacob, Jr.; Orville’s sister and brothers: Genevieve (Clarence) Baas, Fred (Alida) De Boer and Vernon (Lavonne) De Boer; and daughter-in-law, Lorraine De Boer.
