Ronald Beukelman

Ronald James Beukelman, retired union steward for Sioux Area Metro, passed away February 20, 2023, in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 74.

Ron was born November 24, 1948, in the hospital at Parkston, SD to James W. Beukelman and Frances Beukelman. He spent the majority of his childhood farming with his family in Douglas County with two summers spent harvesting from Oklahoma to Canada on a combine crew with his father. Ron graduated from Corsica High School in 1967 and later obtained a degree from the University of South Dakota before attending Western Theological Seminary.

Ron was the loving father of three children and spent most of his life in Sioux Falls, SD. He had a few different jobs during his life. Ron worked as a salesman for Pacesetter Windows, a job that allowed him the opportunity to live in Omaha, NE and Des Moines, IA during the 1980’s. For Ron, though, South Dakota was always home. In his time in South Dakota, Ron worked in television production and radio, where he was a disc jockey. He found real joy in driving bus for Sioux Area Metro and loved to hear the stories of his passengers, many of whom he got to see every day.

Ron was an avid collector of clocks and other knickknacks. He loved to find deals at garage sales and thrift stores, always proud when he found treasures in places others never thought to look. Over time, Ron collected 3000 clocks along with countless stories. Few people have ever had a better memory for stories than Ron Beukelman. Ron was an encyclopedia of information about the history of Douglas County and the lives of families throughout the area back to the turn of the 20th century.

At the end of his life, Ron enjoyed antique cars and adding to his collections. He was a member of Oakwood Park Christian Church and attended until his eyesight started to fail, making driving hard. He loved to sing gospel music and drink coffee while he relaxed in the kitchen.

Ron is survived by sons, Jim Beukelman and wife Bonnie of Edgewood, NM, Justin Beukelman and wife Michelle of Sebring, FL, and Jared Beukelman and wife Sarah of Amarillo Texas as well as sister Linda Rishovd and husband Scott of Sioux Falls, SD. Ron has seven grandchildren: Hannah, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Abbie, Joseph, Bayleigh, Sam and Gus. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Frances Beukelman and sister Kristine Beukelman along with partner Tim Bruce.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Sioux Falls Humane Society and the Gideons.

A memorial service for Ron will be held at the cemetery in Harrison, SD at the graveside June 12th.
