Even numbered years (election years) for quite number of years back, Republicans have sponsored what is called here in South Dakota a "Lincoln Day" event. Different organized counties all across SD have potential to have a Lincoln Day, which is a fund raiser for Republican candidates, but ALL are welcome to attend!
What we do in Aurora county on even numbered years is invite all the potential candidates that will be on ballot to come on a set date. We serve a meal (this year will be prime rib again), have all candidates speak (just a short speech), we mix in a pie auction, have few action items on side, wrap it up and encourage EVERYONE to stay after and visit one-on-one with any candidate you wish.
This year is a HUGE election year for South Dakota. At this point, from the Republican Party, there are 2 candidates running for US Senate, 2 for US House, 4 for SD Governor, 2 for SD Attorney General, 2 for SD Secretary of State, 2 for SD Treasurer, 1 for SD Auditor and 1 for SD Public Utilities Commissioner.
Also District 21 will have 2 running for state senator, and 3 running for state house. On county level I am aware of Sherrif, Auditor and county commissioners running. I apologize if I missed any, but you can see it will be big.
This years event will be in White Lake at the events center (old school) 6 pm on Saturday, April 11th. Tickets for the event will be $40 and are on sale now. Contact Dan Hargreaves (605-682-8038).
We have been blessed with lot of good support at Lincoln Days in past and VERY much appreciate it!! We are hoping that anyone attending this year would do us a courtesy and purchase tickets by March 31 so we can know how many to plan meals for. If we have too many show up at the event without at least telling someone they plan to attend, we can run out of food as happened last two times. If Collett was did not have her stores in each town to fall back on, could have been a bad deal. Again, Please come, but also at least let someone know your intentions to come. We are looking forward to seeing you in White Lake Saturday, April 11!
